The beautiful story of the generous hearts El Camino Highschool shares goes back to early October when Sophia Kang, Executive Director of Women’s Cancer Research Foundation (WCRF), received a delightful message from Shannon Morell, the school’s Cheer Advisor. Shannon’s message read; “Our team wanted to really give back to a cause. We as cheer get many companies selling us pink items and we found that none of the money goes to any organization or foundation so we wanted to do something that mattered besides just using pink poms and wearing pink bows. We will be spending the month of October raising funds and collecting donations for your research foundation. We are super excited to have our cheerleaders, football players, students, and parents take part in our Pink Bucket Campaign during our football games during the month of October. We would love it if you could send a representative to our school on October 31st to be presented with the check from the El Camino High School students, faculty, and parents. We start our campaign at our first game tomorrow which is our Homecoming Game!”.
When asked how El Camino Highschool decided to choose Women’s Cancer Research Foundation (WCRF) as their beneficiary, the Coach Shannon simply responded; “How we selected your organization is that we have a meeting with the team of cheerleaders and we discussed our criteria for the organization we wanted to support. I did some research and we were looking for an organization that put a heavy percentage of the funds to the research and program and that was close enough to us that we could get the money to your organization directly. I looked at your website, explored the site and saw your organization was the way we wanted to go! So we were so happy with your quick response.”
The kind heart and proactiveness of everyone at the El Camino High has deeply touched our heart at WCRF; Dr. John Paul Micha, the Founder / Chairman of WCRF, personally drove down to the school in Oceanside, CA and thanked them for such devotion to give back to a cause.
On October 31st 2019, Michelle Aylward, Secretary of WCRF, was honored and presented a donation check at the football field of El Camino Highschool after enjoying the victorious match with the Wildcats Cheerleaders cheering on the team.
Women’s Cancer Research Foundation (WCRF) would like to send the biggest thanks to everyone at El Camino High including the Coach Shannon Morell, Assistant Coach Michelle Raines, Students, Faculty and everyone who’s raised awareness in women’s cancers and contributed to our mission to improve the cure rates for women with ovarian, endometrial, cervical and other gynecologic cancers through innovative clinical research.
* At WCRF, you can be certain that 90% of your generous contribution is going toward lifesaving research.
